according to the first game's original producer, this was going to be footage used as a cutscene for the 1996 game, and it was even animated from universal animation studios but since sony was involved with publishing it, they thought that it would stray from the graphical showcase of the playstation. it was said that if the first game were to be successful enough that there would be a full animated series to follow, but never happened.

I think this was that time when FMV was kind of on the way out in games... it had kinda run it's course. 3D computer animation was the rage too, so this would seem dated in a Playstation game.

almost every rpg on the console had like a dozen FMV scenes, i think final fantasy VII having the most.
