| 44464 | Rush (Progressive Rock band from back in the 1970's to the late 2010's) |
Chester Cheetah sure has a thing for Rush.

| Mr Magic | Nov 30, 2019 | ![]() |

All this started with a lie told when the FTC started asking questions.

Both Google and YouTube promoted several child-directed channels. YouTube marketed itself as a top destination for kids in presentations to makers of popular children’s products. For example, Google and YouTube told Mattel that, "YouTube is a leader in reaching children (ages 6 to 11) against top TV channels”. Hasbro was told, "YouTube is the #1 website regularly visited by kids.”

But when confronted by the FTC, YouTube responded that it did not have users younger than 13 on its platform and therefore channels on its platform did not need to comply with COPPA.

Eighteen, (18!), privacy and consumer-protection groups, like the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood and the Center for Digital Democracy, filed a joint complaint with the Federal Trade Commission asking it to crack down on YouTube's data collection practices with kids.

No matter how much Google and YouTube lied, my opinion is that nothing can transfer parental responsibilities from parents to corporations. Parents who allow children unsupervised access online can't point the finger at anyone, but themselves.
| eddstarr | Nov 30, 2019 | ![]() |
| 44462 | Flash being discontinued in 2020 |
The videos themselves aren't going anywhere. I'm not sure what will be necessary to make them playable when Flash is dumped, but we'll figure something out.

Hadley wrote :
Are there any plans to convert the flash videos into another format? | 44461 | Rush (Progressive Rock band from back in the 1970's to the late 2010's) |
Rush seems to be one of those bands that have people divided to extremes. Most people either love them or despise them.
| Vaporman87 | Nov 30, 2019 | ![]() |
| 44460 | The Café |
I dunno. Somehow, I think they'll somehow keep it going. This show is practically invulnerable to cancellation.

Speaking of Fox shows, I don't know how many here have seen Party of Five (I know Pikachulover did.) but they're bringing a reboot to Freeform.

<!-- You're using demo endpoint of Iframely API commercially. | 44459 | Flash being discontinued in 2020 |

Homestar Runner is currently in the process of doing that

(Homestar Runner is a cult flash cartoon that mostly pokes fun of or pays homage to lots of cult classic to obscure retro stuff. It's pretty much the 'Member Berries (if 'Member Berries were legit no so ironically mainstream hipsters) of the early 2000's before those were invented and before there was even a Nostalgia Market like there is now. It stars this dude who is an athlete with a speech impediment who makes weird statements and his Mexican wrestler friend Strongbad. Most of the episodes are free on YouTube)
| RetroSnob88 | Nov 30, 2019 | ![]() |
| 44458 | 1971 Cat in the Hat special |

By the way, Vaporman, if you see this (quote button is broken), since you brought it up, The Sneetches short was from the 1973 tv special Dr Seuss on the Loose (Copyright 1973, DePatie-Freleng Enterprises) which showed 3 shorts: The Sneetches, Green Eggs and Ham, and I don't remember the other one, but I remember way back when, TNT (Turner Network Television or as I now call it, the 24 Hr Law &/or Order (Copyright 1990, Wolf Films in association with NBCUniversal Television Distribution) Channel. I sometimes get the 'Member Berries for the channel it used to be) and sometimes TBS (Turner Broadcasting Service, also used to be an awesome channel way back when) used to show Dr. Seuss on the Loose every other weekend in the mid 1990's because I remember the Green Eggs and Ham short fondly

---------------------------------------------------

~All Copyrights acknowledged where necessary
| RetroSnob88 | Nov 29, 2019 | ![]() |
| 44457 | Happy 47th Anniversary to Atari Pong |

And for any of you interested, since giving the unknown retro its long overdue acknowledgement is one of my specialties, I at some point plan on doing a History of Atari as a Company article eventually. That company really set the bar high with many milestones not many know about: Steve Jobs (dude who invented Apple Computers) worked there for 5 weeks back in 1974, Atari released the first adult video game (google Atari Gotcha for reference), Namco bought out their floundering Japan branch and focused their shift on the video market making Namco's mascot Pac-Man (Copyright 1980, Namco/Bandai) Atari's Japanese cousin in a way, even the first Chuck E Cheese opened through Atari in 1977. The point is, they had so much going for them at the end of the day, and today, they're only remebered for their one hit wonder console the Atari VCS/2600 (Copyright 1977/1982, Atari Inc/Copyright 1986, Atari Corporation) which is just sad.

Oh well, good thing I came here to remedy that lol

---------------------------------------------------

~All copyrights have been acknowledged where necessary
| RetroSnob88 | Nov 29, 2019 | ![]() |
| 44455 | Rush (Progressive Rock band from back in the 1970's to the late 2010's) |
As I mentioned in a previous comment, the band had one other drummer before Neil joined in 1974: John Rutsey. The band did one album with him and that was their first. The reason he left was because following the song Working Man gaining a cult following in the Midwestern US, Rush were scheduled to play their first US tour. Only one problem: John was diabetic and wasn't taking good care of himself. He was dismissed for his health. After Rush, John took up body building. He even managed to keep in touch with Alex until the early 90's. John died of a heart attack in 2008 at the age of 55. Here's a photo of what he looked like (he's the dude on the right).

| RetroSnob88 | Nov 29, 2019 | ![]() |
| 44454 | Rush (Progressive Rock band from back in the 1970's to the late 2010's) |

Celebrities who are huge Rush fans: Stephen Colbert, Tim McGraw (surprisingly), one of the judges that used to be on The Voice, Peter Dinklage, Jack Black, Jason Mamosasoa (I think that's his last name? The feminine looking beard dude guy what played Aquaman in 2019 and every girl fangasms at the photos of him), Robb Wells from The Trailer Park Boys, Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins, Ryan Reynolds and more
| RetroSnob88 | Nov 29, 2019 | ![]() |
